Northern Sea Oats - Chasmanthium latifolium

$26

This unique grass has distinct changing characteristics that make it an attraction across seasons. The foliage starts green to gold in spring and summer months, then changes toward copper in fall, and bronze-brown in winter. Additionally, it is most noted for its sightly oat-like flat seed heads that start to show in summer, and then take on purple hues. Excellent for dried arrangements, as well as borders, beds, and riparian zone placement. Butterflies and birds are big fans of Northern Sea Oats, and deer avoid it.

This upright grower can reach up to 5' tall and spread to a clump form of up to 2' wide. It is easy to grow and prefers full sun, but can take some filtered shade. It is best to plant in well-draining soil, especially to help it get established. We recommend cutting back to its base clump in early spring after the last frost to stimulate fantastic new growth. Hardy to -30°F when protected from windchill.

Our 1 gallon grasses are rooted, fertilized and ready to burst with new growth. Some grasses grow very tall and change in size rapidly across seasons. If you order a grass that is very tall at the time, we will trim it as needed for shipping.
