Moon Bay Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica)
Moon Bay Heavenly Bamboo is a colorful evergreen shrub with attractive green foliage that changes to beautiful hues of red and gold in the fall. Moon Bay is the dwarf version of Heavenly Bamboo, and it has a nice rounded growth habit that can reach 3' tall x 3' wide. This plant has small white flowers in summer, which are insignificant as this plant is prized for the appeal and texture of its foliage. This Nandina can produce red berries starting in fall that attract birds, and also create a winter interest. It is more likely to bear fruit when planted in multiples.
Deer resistant and drought tolerant once established, this is an easy to grow shrub, that can also tolerate heavy shade. It does best in full sun to partial shade, and well-draining soil. We suggest a winter mulch for climates that dip below 10°F, and placement near a fence, building or hedgerow for wind protection. Hardy down to -10°F when protected from windchill.
