Holy Smoke - Andropogon gerardii

A fetching burgundy to maroon tall grass, Holy Smoke brings excellent color and texture to various kinds of gardens and landscapes. It continues to become more vibrantly red to purple in color as the seasons progress. People are attracted to how it looks, and birds are attracted to it when it goes to seed. This grass is a great choice for erosion control, borders, screening, mass planting, urban growing, prairies and meadows.

Holy Smoke is easy to grow and drought tolerant once established. It has an upright growth habit that reaches up to 5' tall and about 2' wide. It is deer resistant and hardy to -30°F when protected from windchill. It will do best in full sun, and we recommend cutting back to the base after the last winter frost to help promote a new burst of spring growth. 

Our 1 gallon grasses are rooted, fertilized and ready to burst with new growth. Some grasses grow very tall and change in size rapidly across seasons. If you order a grass that is very tall at the time, we will trim it as needed for shipping.
